What are the biggest career mistakes to avoid?

During college, most people think they will live happily forever after obtaining a great degree.

In actuality, it doesn’t work.

As we all know – most of what we learned in university was useless on a real job.

Just after college, the real struggle begins.

To live the life you’ve imagined since your college days, you need more than just a degree.

That’s not your fault.

Those who are instructing you don’t have these skills in their repertoire.

The person who is teaching you engineering is not an engineer. The fact is, he is a teacher.

Life skills are essential.

In order to succeed, you need side hustles.

It is important to know how to deal with people.

Your MBA did not teach you how to deal with people, how to make money online, or how to acquire clients for freelance work.

You need to learn all of these Skills.

Now you will be thinking that I will learn after college.

So I would say Think again!

Is there a reason so many people are content to work from 9-6 their entire adult lives and just earn a salary?

In general, most people are more concerned with earning a small salary instead of becoming extremely wealthy or trying to change the world.

There are for a variety of reasons that people choose to follow this path.

1: The High Cost of Success: I don’t think anyone would have any objection to becoming rich. An increase in salary or promotion at work is unlikely to be turned down by anyone.

The problem is that nothing in this world is free. Whatever goal you have in mind for your life comes with a price. The cost increases with the level of your target.

To become rich, you have to work long hours, give up time with your family and even compromise on your health.

When Dalai Lama was asked what surprised him about humanity the most, he replied:

“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

The majority of individuals don’t want to invest so much on success.

2: Hierarchy of Needs: Each level of need is distinct for humans. Maslow’s hierarchy of requirements states that people only attempt to satisfy their higher level demands once their lower level needs have been met. The following needs can be ranked from greatest to least important.

  1. Self-actualization, which encompasses morality, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
  2. Esteem – this term encompasses traits like confidence, respect, and self-worth.
  3. Belongingness, which includes love and affection, friendship, closeness, family, etc.
  4. Safety involves the protection of the environment, jobs, resources, health, and property, among other things.
  5. Self-actualization – includes morality, creativity, problem solving, etc.
  6. Esteem – includes confidence, self-esteem, achievement, respect, etc.
  7. Belongingness – includes love, friendship, intimacy, family, etc.
  8. Safety – includes security of environment, employment, resources, health, property, etc.
  9. Physiological – this category covers things like air, food, water, sex, sleep, and other things that contribute to homeostasis.

Since most individuals are still having trouble meeting their basic demands for physical and safety protection, they are stuck at the lower level of needs. They are unable to strive for greater needs in these circumstances.

3: Risk avoidance: There are few people who can truly transform the world. One person in a million genuinely has an impact on the world that is meaningful. There can only be one prime minister or president per nation. As a result, striving for the top is exceedingly dangerous in any sector because there are so few spots available. Most people don’t like taking so many risks in their lives.

4: Having a sense of contentment: It is also true that we can live our lives more better if we reduce our wants rather than complicating them by pursuing challenging objectives. If you can’t be content in life, no amount of wealth or power will make you happier. Most common men around the world are aware of this insight. As a result, they choose contentment above pursuing earthly objectives.

If you want a feeling of contentment then follow this:

  • Keep learning new things.
  • Pursue your passions.
  • Set specific aims.
  • Make use of your advantages and improve your deficiencies.
  • Keep up the good work.
  • Trust your instincts.
  • Live your own life rather than someone else’s.
  • Participate in teams.
  • Display self-assurance while remaining modest.

5: When you’re at the top, it’s lonely: The most successful people also tend to be the most alone, which is a truth. Since they frequently sacrifice all of these in their ambition to become wealthy and powerful, they barely have friends or family. Most people don’t want to give up people’s love and devotion in the name of money and power.

Building a career is challenging. Additionally, it is unique and satisfying. This is a work of art. This is the work-based portfolio of your life.

I sincerely hope that you will avoid making the same mistakes that we discussed above. It is always better to gain knowledge from the mistakes of others.
